Reciting your marriage vows is one of the most memorable parts of your wedding. Writing your own wedding vows makes your ceremony a unique expression of your love, and helps your groom feel truly special. But of course, you want to write wedding vows that succinctly convey your love. How do you write the perfect vows if you don’t fancy yourself a great writer? Here are some steps you can take to help you get the words just right.
1. How to Begin
Go somewhere you won’t be disturbed. If you want romantic music or “your song” to help set the mood, be ready to do that. Take a blank sheet of paper and begin by writing down bullet points of all the things you love about your fiancee. Maybe you love several aspects of their personality: honesty, generosity, fun-loving, spontaneous, unselfish, etc. Perhaps you’ve noticed how he treats his mom, or animals, or just you. Maybe you want to compliment his looks or whatever first attracted you to him. You aren’t formulating any sentences at this point — just jotting down observations about why you love them.
