I remember being so heartbroken when my grandfather was unable to attend my wedding. It felt like such a huge part of my life was missing from my big day. And I know I’m not alone! It can be hard for any bride or groom to celebrate on their wedding day without the loved ones who have passed. Though they may not be able to be there physically, these sentimental ways to remember loved ones on your wedding day will help to bring them there in spirit. Check out the list below.
Sentimental Ways To Remember Loved Ones At Your Wedding Who Have Passed
Pin Their Photos To Your Bouquet
Pin the photos of your loved ones on the handle of your bouquet for a sweet way to honor their memory at your wedding. I love the idea of placing your photos in a locket (or something similar) and then wrapping it around your bouquet. It’s a sweet touch that most won’t notice, but it’ll mean the world to you.
“Save A Seat”
Save a seat in the front row of your ring ceremony for loved ones who are unable to attend, no matter the reason! Place a “Reserved” banner over the back of the chair, or even put a photo on the chair back so other guests know not to sit there.
Light A Candle (Or A Lantern) For Them
At the end of the night, light a candle for those unable to attend. Additionally, you can light a lantern (like this couple did below) or set it out on the water. Just check to make sure that it’s okay with your venue before.
Provide Favors In Their Honor
Did your late father love pistachios? Or did your late grandmother love peonies? See if you can work these little things into your wedding wherever you can: possibly giving out small bags of pistachios and cut peonies to guests after the big day has wrapped up.
Set Up A Memory Table
If you have a collection of old, memorable photographs, put them together as a memory display on one of the tables throughout your reception. If possible, pick photos that have you and your “guest of honor” in them together. And of course, write a little message explaining why this was important to you.
Give a Toast
If public speaking is your thing (and honestly, it definitely is not mine) give a toast to your reception guests, thanking them for coming to your wedding. Now would also be a good time to give a toast to those who passed away.
