I love little wedding traditions! They’re so charming and make for wonderful momentos when saved down the road. I was looking through my wedding album the other day and I loved re-reading a love letter that my husband had written me. Love letters (different from your vows, of course!) or notes are commonly exchanged by the bride and groom on the morning of their wedding day. However, even though you dearly love your spouse-to-be, it can be hard for some to write out their feelings. If you’re one of those people, here are a few of my favorite tips when writing a wedding day love letter to your future spouse!
Make A List Of Things You Want To Include
When you first start thinking about your love letter, create a list (mental, or on paper) of all of your favorite moments together. You don’t have to include all of them (or any of them) in your actual letter, but reminiscing on how you fell in love may help the juices flow. Write down things like favorite vacations, dates, funny experiences, or inside jokes.
Of Course, Remember How You Met…
Naturally, remember how you two first met. Was it awkward and fumbly? Or love at first sight? Remember where you were and how you felt when you knew you were in love and take note of your feelings now. Feel free to mention that in your letter or keep it to yourself, it’s completely up to you. Let it inspire your writing either way!
Schedule Some Time To Write
Really…whether you write it at 2 AM or an hour before you deliver it to your spouse-to-be, set aside enough time to write something extremely meaningful. You won’t regret it if you do!
Length Doesn’t Matter
When it comes to writing a love letter, length doesn’t matter! You can say it in a few words, or a few hundred. Just as long as you write with words spoken from the heart!
Remember…You Can Always Edit Later!
When writing, I always find it best to just let the words flow from your fingers, completely unedited. First drafts are always supposed to be a bit of a mess and you can always go back through and edit any mistakes!
